McClean has once again been the target of abuse

Last year he was victimised by his own supporters at Stoke over his decision, and McClean branded his critics ‘uneducated cavemen’ in an emotional social media post.

The winger was warned by the Football Association for using an offensive word in his Instagram post, and he went on to accuse English football’s governing body of anti-Irish bias.

It was confirmed by then Stoke manager Gary Rowett that McClean had been receiving death threats and abusive packages in the weeks following Remembrance Sunday, and it appears he has been sent another.

McClean, who turned 30 on April 22, shared a picture on Twitter of a card he received which read ‘happy birthday and die’, ‘have an amazing death’ and ‘Fenian sub human bastard’.
