Manchester United have reignited their interest in Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, according to reports.
The north London club triggered a 12-month extension on the Belgian’s deal at the beginning of the year after failing to reach an agreement over a new contract.
By taking up the extension, Spurs activated a £25million release clause which kicks in at the start of the summer transfer window.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already started preparations for a busy summer in the market.
He has made Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho his top target – with a £100m deal mooted for the England starlet.
According to The Sun, United are also keen to add to their defence and have identified the 30-year-old as the ideal player to slot straight into their first-team next season.

Old Trafford deal-makers are set ‘to trigger’ the £25million release clause, although they have not yet made contact with Spurs over the move.
Aldeweireld has spent four seasons at Tottenham and has accumulated over 100 Premier League appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The Belgium international has emerged as one of the best defenders in English football throughout his time in north London.
Former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho spoke openly for months about wanting to sign a centre-half, and Alderweireld was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.
A deal for the 30-year-old was vetoed by the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, however, due to fears Alderweireld could not play as part of a two-man defence.
It now looks like the defender could be headed north for a cut-price fee and may well be one of Solskjaer’s first signings as United manager.
