Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool’s win over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid may have been the best night of his life.
The Reds won 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.
Thousands descended on Madrid for a legacy-defining encounter at the end of a scarcely-believable continental campaign, with both sides narrowly making it through the group stage and then completing jaw-dropping semi-final wins.
Mauricio Pochettino’s players dropped to the deck as the red hordes went wild at full-time as Klopp ended his cup final hoodoo to win his first trophy as manager of Liverpool and ease the hurt of missing out on the Premier League title.
Champions League glory also helped put last year’s final loss in Kiev behind them. Klopp had lost his past six major finals, including his previous two Champions League finals.
So the German was quick to heap praise on his players and his supportive family after his previous near misses.
“I’m so happy for the boys, I’m so happy for all these people – our fans,” he said.
“I’m so happy for my family, they suffer every year when we go to a final on the last game of the season and we lose it.
“So they deserve it more than anybody. They are so supportive like they [the fans] are. Did you ever see a team like this?
“Fighting with absolutely no fuel in the tank anymore, both teams obviously, Tottenham came up and changed offensively.

“And then you have a goalkeeper who is making difficult things look easy. It’s unbelievable, what a night!
“The night will be much better now. We have to do a few interviews, then show the cup off to the people, but it is maybe the best night of my life.”
Jordan Henderson, the Liverpool captain, paid tribute to Klopp. “Without this manager this is impossible,” he said. ”
You go through tough times in a season, but what he has done since coming in is unbelievable.
“There’s such a togetherness, he has created a special dressing room – all the praise goes to the manager. I’m so proud to be a part of this football club and to cap it with this is so special to me.”
