Sadio Mane says Real Madrid transfer link a ‘pleasure’ but is happy at Liverpool and focused on Champions League final

Sadio Mane admits being linked to Real Madrid is a ‘pleasure’ but insists he is more than happy at Liverpool.

Mane is busy preparing for the Champions League final with Tottenham on June 1 in Madrid, which is live on talkSPORT.

It will be his second appearance at this stage of Europe’s premier competition, having scored in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid last year.

The Senegal international has netted 26 times this year, including four in the Champions League, with a memorable double against Bayern Munich among his efforts.

That form has alerted Real Madrid and manager Zinedine Zidane, whose squad is set for a revamp this summer, having ended the season trophyless.

Mane, who joined from Southampton in 2016, only signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool in November and said joining the Reds was the ‘best decision of my career’.

“This is always part of football so we have to deal with it but for me the most important thing is Liverpool and I’m happy here,” he said ahead of the Champions League final.

“I’m preparing for one of the biggest games for the club and the fans and the players as well, so let’s focus on this one first and win it. It’s always a pleasure that this kind of team wants you but don’t forget Liverpool. We beat big teams.”

Liverpool, who lost out on winning the Premier League to Manchester City by a single point, will be giving everything to win the Champions League for the sixth time in their history, says Mane.

“I think it’s incredible [to be in another final] and I’m so positive,” he added.

“We know we have targets – we wanted to win the league and the Champions League. We didn’t win the league but we still have one trophy to play for so we are going to try to give everything to win it. Everybody’s ready to win.

“We would have loved to win the league but we have to take it as a positive. It will give us more motivation.”

You can listen to Tottenham vs Liverpool in the Champions League final LIVE on talkSPORT from 8pm on Saturday, June 1.

There has been no greater Champions League final than the iconic Miracle of Istanbul, in which Liverpool fought from 3-0 down to be crowned champions of Europe on penalties.
