Ally McCoist has singled out countryman Scott McTominay for praise following his performance during Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Barcelona.
The Red Devils were largely uninspiring and Luke Shaw̢۪s own goal has given them a mountain to climb at the Camp Nou, but McTominay̢۪s display gave some cause for optimism at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old showed no fear against one of world football̢۪s greatest midfields, regaining possession on numerous occasions with his relentless and energetic determination to press.
In fact, in L’Equipe’s infamously brutal player ratings, the Scotland international was given a ‘7’ – the highest of any player on the pitch.
â€Å“I thought McTominay might’ve been one of the best players on the park last night,†Scotland legend McCoist told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. â€Å“He was top class.â€

However, his performance was not matched by those in front of him as United failed to register a single shot on target during the match.
And McCoist doesn̢۪t fancy their chances of progression following the underwhelming result.
â€Å“It wasn’t a brilliant Barcelona,†he added. â€Å“That’s one of the concerning things for United because you could look at it as an opportunity missed.
â€Å“Messi wasn’t at his best, Suarez wasn’t at his best. But they were still comfortable.
â€Å“I fear for United at the Nou Camp, I really do. As brilliant as the result was in Paris, to knock Barcelona out they’re going to need an even better result.

â€Å“They’re still in the tie, which would’ve been important from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s point of view.
â€Å“But they didn’t register a shot on target against Barcelona at home. If you’re looking to progress, that isn’t good enough.â€

They actual goals scored is currently below their expected goals value. Top strikers like that will usually always end up with a higher goals scored total than expected goals.
